CVE-2026-122309

MediumCVSS 6.2
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

Kyverno before 1.19.2 contains a denial of service vulnerability that allows namespace-scoped policy authors to exhaust CPU and memory by submitting CEL expressions evaluated without runtime cost limits. Attackers can create a NamespacedValidatingPolicy or NamespacedDeletingPolicy with nested map comprehensions over large ConfigMap fields to OOM-kill Kyverno pods and block cluster-wide admission.

Risk Assessment

An attacker with permission to create policies in a namespace can cause Kyverno pods to crash and block admission across the entire cluster. This results in service unavailability and inability to manage Kubernetes resources.

Recommendation

Update Kyverno to version 1.19.2 or later. Restrict policy creation permissions and consider implementing resource limits and mechanisms to detect overly expensive CEL expressions.
