CVE-2026-53035
MediumCVSS 5.5Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Low risk7th percentile - higher than 7% of all known CVEs
Summary
A deadlock vulnerability was discovered in the Linux kernel's BPF sockmap mechanism during AF_UNIX socket iteration. The issue occurs when bpf_iter_unix_seq_show() takes the fast path of lock_sock_fast() and the iter program attempts to update a sockmap, causing recursive locking of the same slock-AF_UNIX lock.
Risk Assessment
The deadlock can cause a complete hang of a kernel process or thread, leading to denial of service (DoS) for applications using BPF sockmap and AF_UNIX sockets. An attacker with local access and BPF program execution privileges could intentionally trigger this condition.
Recommendation
Immediately update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that resolves the deadlock in bpf_iter_unix_seq_show(). If an update is not possible, temporarily restrict BPF programs that modify sockmap during AF_UNIX socket iteration.
