CVE-2026-99257

Unknown
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

In the Linux kernel, the shared GPIO mechanism based on platform lookup tables requires an associated struct device. An fwnode-based lookup with no associated device currently causes a NULL-pointer dereference. The fix adds a check that lets the kernel gracefully handle this situation with an error.

Risk Assessment

A kernel crash (oops) may be triggered by incorrect use of the shared GPIO API without a device. Impact is limited to drivers and configurations using this mechanism.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that adds the no-device check. The update is recommended wherever shared GPIOs are used.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: gpio: shared: gracefully handle no-device lookup of shared GPIOs We use platform lookup tables for shared GPIOs. This mechanism needs a struct device to work so fwnode-based lookup with no device associated currently causes a NULL-pointer deference. Adding this functionality will require a larger rework and it has never worked anyway so add a check that allows the kernel to gracefully handle this situation with an error ahead of implementing that functionality as a new feature.
