CVE-2026-53028
MediumCVSS 5.5Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Low risk6th percentile - higher than 6% of all known CVEs
Summary
In the Linux kernel USB Type-C driver, an error pointer dereference was found. The function does not properly check the partner registration result, which can lead to ERR_PTR dereference and potential system crash.
Risk Assessment
The risk involves possible system hang or crash when working with USB Type-C devices, affecting stability and availability of servers or workstations.
Recommendation
Immediately update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix (commit usb: typec: Fix error pointer dereference). Monitor distributions for the patch release.
