Summary

In the Linux kernel, the Ceph subsystem's ceph_mdsc_build_path() did not free the "path" pointer obtained by __getname() on error paths. If ownership of this pointer is not passed to the caller via path_info.path, the function must free it before returning. The fix adds __putname() calls on those error paths.

Risk Assessment

Causes kernel memory leaks when errors occur in ceph_mdsc_build_path(), which with frequent errors can lead to memory exhaustion and instability of Ceph client systems.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version with the fix adding __putname() on error paths in ceph_mdsc_build_path(). Relevant for systems acting as Ceph clients.
