Summary

In the hfs filesystem, next_id, folder_count, and file_count in the super block info were expanded to 64 bits, and BUG_ONs were added to detect overflow. If the MDB is corrupted, the BUG_ON is triggered, causing a crash. The patch replaces this mechanism with proper error handling.

Risk Assessment

A corrupted hfs filesystem may trigger a kernel crash (BUG_ON), causing system unavailability.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that replaces BUG_ON with proper error handling for CNID count checks.
