Summary

In the Linux kernel, a flaw was fixed in mm/damon/sysfs where, if a DAMON context sysfs directory setup failed after creating the attrs/ directory, subdirectories of attrs/ were not cleaned up. This nearly broke the DAMON sysfs interface until reboot and leaked memory for the unremoved directory. The fix ensures cleanup on such failures.

Risk Assessment

May cause memory leaks and persistent unavailability of the DAMON sysfs interface until reboot, hindering memory access monitoring and management.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix. If a DAMON setup failure occurs, consider rebooting to restore the interface.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: mm/damon/sysfs: cleanup attrs subdirs on context dir setup failure When a context DAMON sysfs directory setup is failed after setup of attrs/ directory, subdirectories of attrs/ directory are not cleaned up. As a result, DAMON sysfs interface is nearly broken until the system reboots, and the memory for the unremoved directory is leaked. Cleanup the directories under such failures.
