Summary

In the Linux kernel, a reference leak was fixed in the intel_th driver when opening an output device. The reference taken when looking up the th device was not dropped on some error paths, on close, and even on successful open. The fix ensures the reference is dropped in all cases.

Risk Assessment

May lead to kernel resource leaks and potential system instability when intel_th devices are repeatedly opened and closed.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version with the fix. Monitor systems using Intel Trace Hub for resource issues.
