Exploitation Probability (EPSS)

Low risk
0.43%

36th percentile - higher than 36% of all known CVEs

Summary

QXmlStreamReader can consume disproportionate CPU during parsing of a crafted XML document, causing the application to become unresponsive (denial of service). Exploitation only requires the application to parse attacker-influenced XML; no authentication or user interaction is needed.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can cause application unavailability by exhausting CPU resources. There is no data disclosure, modification, or code execution — impact is limited to the affected process.

Recommendation

Update the Qt/QXmlStreamReader library to a patched version. Restrict ingestion of untrusted XML documents and consider time and resource limits for XML parsing processes.

Original NVD description (English source)

An attacker able to supply a crafted XML document to an application using QXmlStreamReader can cause disproportionate CPU consumption during parsing, making the application unresponsive (denial of service). Exploitation requires only that the application parse attacker-influenced XML; no authentication, privileges, or user interaction beyond ingesting the input are needed. There is no loss of confidentiality or integrity — no data disclosure, data modification, or code execution — and the impact is contained to the affected process.
