Summary

In the Linux kernel, the mtk-smi memory driver has a device reference leak during larb probe. The reference taken when looking up the SMI device is not dropped on late probe failure (e.g. probe deferral) or on driver unbind.

Risk Assessment

The leaked device reference gradually exhausts kernel resources and may cause system instability or issues when reloading the driver.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that drops the SMI device reference on error paths and on driver unbind.
