Summary

In the Linux kernel, the net: usb: asix driver reads the PHY address from the USB device without validation. A malicious or faulty device can return an invalid address (>= PHY_MAX_ADDR), triggering a warning in mdiobus_get_phy().

Risk Assessment

Connecting a malicious or faulty USB device can trigger kernel warnings and potentially destabilize the system.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version with the fix that validates the PHY address in asix_read_phy_addr().
