Summary

In the Linux kernel, raid10_handle_discard should wait for a barrier before returning a discard bio with REQ_NOWAIT. Failure to do so may cause issues and unnecessary warnings in dmesg.

Risk Assessment

This may lead to improper RAID10 array operation, including potential data loss or I/O errors, and flooding system logs with warnings.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that adds the barrier wait and removes unnecessary warnings for discard bios with REQ_NOWAIT.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: md/raid10: wait barrier before returning discard request with REQ_NOWAIT raid10_handle_discard should wait barrier before returning a discard bio which has REQ_NOWAIT. And there is no need to print warning calltrace if a discard bio has REQ_NOWAIT flag. Quality engineer usually checks dmesg and reports error if dmesg has warning/error calltrace.
