0.13%

2th percentile - higher than 2% of all known CVEs

Summary

In the Linux kernel, the net/mlx5 HWS error path of hws_pool_buddy_init() does not free the allocator structure itself during buddy allocator cleanup, causing a memory leak. The fix adds the missing kfree() to properly release all allocated memory.

Risk Assessment

A memory leak can lead to kernel resource exhaustion and system instability. Exploitation requires triggering an error in allocator initialization, which may be difficult to induce in a controlled manner.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix. Regularly monitor memory usage on systems with Mellanox mlx5 cards.
