Summary

In the Linux kernel's enetc network driver, virtual functions (VFs) do not support HWTSTAMP_TX_ONESTEP_SYNC because only the PF can access PMa_SINGLE_STEP registers. Using a VF to test one-step timestamp causes a kernel crash (paging request error).

Risk Assessment

May cause a kernel crash (kernel paging request error) during transmission from a VF with one-step timestamp enabled, leading to network service denial.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that prevents HWTSTAMP_TX_ONESTEP_SYNC from being used on enetc VFs.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: net: enetc: VFs do not support HWTSTAMP_TX_ONESTEP_SYNC Actually ENETC VFs do not support HWTSTAMP_TX_ONESTEP_SYNC because only ENETC PF can access PMa_SINGLE_STEP registers. And there will be a crash if VFs are used to test one-step timestamp, the crash log as follows.
