Summary

In the Linux kernel, the qedf scsi driver copied a buffer from userspace without ensuring NUL termination, which could lead to an out-of-bounds read when using kstrtouint. The issue was fixed by replacing memdup_user with memdup_user_nul.

Risk Assessment

An out-of-bounds read can expose kernel memory data or cause a system crash, posing a risk to confidentiality and availability.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix (use of memdup_user_nul in the qedf driver).

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: scsi: qedf: Ensure the copied buf is NUL terminated Currently, we allocate a count-sized kernel buffer and copy count from userspace to that buffer. Later, we use kstrtouint on this buffer but we don't ensure that the string is terminated inside the buffer, this can lead to OOB read when using kstrtouint. Fix this issue by using memdup_user_nul instead of memdup_user.
