Summary

In the Linux kernel, the pinctrl devicetree module had a reference count leak in pinctrl_dt_to_map() when allocation of the propname buffer failed. The fix calls pinctrl_dt_free_maps(), which drops the reference.

Risk Assessment

A reference count leak can lead to gradual resource exhaustion and system instability when the function is called repeatedly.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the reference leak fix in pinctrl_dt_to_map().

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: pinctrl: devicetree: fix refcount leak in pinctrl_dt_to_map() If we fail to allocate propname buffer, we need to drop the reference count we just took. Because the pinctrl_dt_free_maps() includes the droping operation, here we call it directly.
