Summary

In the Linux kernel, the phy_device layer may cause null pointer exceptions in the interrupt service routine (ISR). If phydev->irq is set unconditionally, a valid interrupt handler must be checked or fall back to polling mode to prevent null pointer exceptions in the ISR.

Risk Assessment

This can cause kernel crashes and network service unavailability on systems with certain PHY devices when the interrupt is misconfigured.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the phy_device fix.
