Summary

A hash collision flaw was found in the IPv6 connection lookup table in the Linux kernel’s IPv6 functionality when a user makes a new kind of SYN flood attack. Risk Assessment

An attacker can exhaust server CPU resources, causing denial of service for legitimate users relying on IPv6.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix and consider restricting or filtering IPv6 traffic at the network edge.
