CVE-2006-3668

High
Published: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

A heap-based buffer overflow exists in the it_read_envelope function in Dynamic Universal Music Bibliotheque (DUMB) 0.9.3 and earlier, and current CVS as of 20060716, including libdumb. A user-assisted attacker can execute arbitrary code via a crafted .it (Impulse Tracker) file with an envelope containing a large number of nodes.

Risk Assessment

This vulnerability allows remote code execution in the context of an application processing .it files, potentially leading to system compromise or malicious actions. It requires user interaction (opening a file) but can be exploited in targeted attacks.

Recommendation

Update the DUMB library to the latest version that does not contain this vulnerability. Avoid opening untrusted .it files until the update is applied.
