Summary

In the Linux kernel, the drm/i915/dmc driver hardened DMC firmware payload parsing. It validates the conversion of firmware size from dwords to bytes using check_mul_overflow() before calculating the payload size, rejects zero-length payloads and zero MMIO counts in the header, and sets dmc_fw_size only after successful allocation.

Risk Assessment

Malicious or malformed DMC firmware could cause buffer overflow or invalid memory access, potentially enabling code execution or system instability on Intel platforms with i915.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix (commit efde6601a1f1daedfe3dcc2816c934ddb44e3eef). Apply the update on systems with Intel graphics.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/i915/dmc: Harden DMC firmware payload parsing Validate the conversion of the DMC firmware size from dwords to bytes using check_mul_overflow() before calculating the firmware payload size. Reject zero-length payloads and zero MMIO counts in the DMC firmware header so malformed firmware is caught early. Also set dmc_fw_size only after the payload allocation succeeds.
