Summary

In the Linux kernel, the wifi mac80211 function ieee80211_rx_mgmt_deauth() read the deauth reason code before checking that the fixed field was actually present in the received frame. The fix validates the deauth frame length first and only then reads the reason code.

Risk Assessment

An undersized deauth frame can cause an out-of-bounds read in the kernel. This may lead to a system crash or potential data exposure.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version with the deauth frame length validation fix in mac80211. Medium priority — affects systems with Wi-Fi interfaces.
