Summary

In the Linux kernel, the iio: buffer subsystem leaks uninitialized heap memory to userspace. The iio_push_to_buffers_with_ts_unaligned() function exposes uninitialized data when the passed data is not a multiple of 8 bytes and the timestamp is enabled. __GFP_ZERO should be used in devm_krealloc() to clear extra space.

Risk Assessment

May lead to leakage of sensitive kernel memory data to userspace, constituting a confidentiality breach.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that zeroes the bounce buffer. Restrict unprivileged user access to IIO devices until the update.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: iio: buffer: Ensure bounce buffer used for unaligned case is zeroed. iio_push_to_buffers_with_ts_unaligned() leaks uninitialized heap memory to userspace if the data passed in is not a multiple of 8 bytes and the timestamp is enabled. Specify __GFP_ZERO for the devm_krealloc() to ensure any extra space is cleared.
