Summary

In the Linux kernel, in KVM: s390, under some circumstances the page of nested guest memory being shadowed may not be present at all in the parent guest gmap. dat_entry_walk() will not find any leaf entry and return -ENOENT, which is erroneously propagated all the way to userspace.

Risk Assessment

Erroneous propagation of -ENOENT to userspace can cause incorrect virtual machine behavior or errors in nested guest memory handling.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that manually calls gmap_link() on the nested guest memory being shadowed if the mapping was not already present.
