Summary

In the Linux kernel, the eth fbnic driver has an issue with rounding zero ring sizes. roundup_pow_of_two() is undefined for zero, and ethtool permits a zero ring size to reach the driver. The fix leaves zero unchanged so the minimum-size check rejects it deterministically.

Risk Assessment

Improper rounding of zero may lead to undefined driver behavior and potential system instability. It affects systems with fbnic network cards.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fbnic driver fix. Avoid setting a zero ring size via ethtool until the update is applied.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: eth: fbnic: Avoid rounding zero ring sizes roundup_pow_of_two() is undefined for zero. ethtool permits a zero ring size to reach the driver, where the minimum-size check should reject it. Leave zero unchanged while rounding nonzero ring sizes. The minimum-size check then rejects zero deterministically without changing the established behavior for other values.
