Summary

In the Linux kernel, ipe_bdev_setintegrity() frees the old root hash when dm-verity publishes a new one on ->preresume, while policy evaluation can still be dereferencing it. This results in a potential use-after-free.

Risk Assessment

A use-after-free in the IPE subsystem can lead to kernel memory corruption, system crashes, or potential exploitation for privilege escalation.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that protects the root hash with RCU, since the evaluation path already runs under rcu_read_lock().
