Summary

In the Linux kernel, the validate_init() function in the drm/nouveau driver, on ttm_bo_reserve() failure or "vma not found" error paths, breaks the loop without adding the looked-up object to any validate list, so the reference taken by drm_gem_object_lookup() is never released.

Risk Assessment

The GEM object reference leak can lead to memory resource exhaustion and system instability when triggered repeatedly on NVIDIA GPUs.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that drops the GEM reference on both error paths.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: drm/nouveau: Fix gem reference leak in validate_init() On the ttm_bo_reserve() failure and "vma not found" error paths, the loop breaks without adding the looked-up object to any validate list, so the reference taken by drm_gem_object_lookup() is never released; validate_fini() only walks the spliced lists. Drop the reference before breaking out on both paths.
