Summary

In the Linux kernel on s390, the cmf measurement block address is an absolute address, but the associated schib_config and schib fields are not defined as dma64_t, preventing automatic detection of incorrect assignments. The missing virt_to_dma64() translation causes firmware to use a wrong address when storing extended format channel measurement data.

Risk Assessment

On kernels built with CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_IDENTITY_BASE=y, firmware may store measurement data at a wrong address, leading to memory corruption or incorrect measurements.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version with the fix that defines the fields as dma64_t and adds the virt_to_dma64() translation.

Original NVD description (English source)

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: s390/cmf: Fix virtual vs physical address confusion The measurement block address is an absolute address. Define the associated schib_config and schib fields as dma64_t to enable automatic detection of incorrect assignments. Also add the missing virt_to_dma64() translation. Without this fix, a wrong address will be used by firmware when storing extended format channel measurement data on kernels built with CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_IDENTITY_BASE=y.
