CVE-2026-92389

HighCVSS 8.1
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Exploitation Probability (EPSS)

Low risk
0.26%

17th percentile - higher than 17% of all known CVEs

Summary

libcurl's TFTP state machine fails to validate state transitions against the requested transfer direction, accepting opening server responses for both reads and writes interchangeably. A malicious TFTP server can respond to a download request in a way that forces the client into transmit mode, prompting libcurl to consume and transmit data from the handle's persistent CURLOPT_READDATA pointer, including data remaining from unrelated prior operations such as an HTTP POST request executed on a reused handle.

Risk Assessment

A malicious TFTP server could cause leakage of application memory data, including data from prior operations on the same handle. The risk affects applications using TFTP and reusing curl handles.

Recommendation

Update libcurl to a patched version. Avoid reusing curl handles between TFTP operations and other transfers carrying sensitive data.
