57th percentile - higher than 57% of all known CVEs

Summary

When writing a long cookie name and value to a Netscape cookie jar, a remote HTTP server can make curl write a record that exceeds its line-length parsing limit. Consequently, any subsequent curl invocation reading from that same cookie jar using --cookie silently aborts parsing prematurely upon encountering the too long line, ignoring all subsequent valid cookies in the file.

Risk Assessment

A malicious server could cause curl to skip important cookies on subsequent requests, potentially leading to authentication failures or unexpected application behavior. The risk affects automation relying on cookie jar files.

Recommendation

Update curl to a patched version. Regularly verify the contents of cookie jar files used in automation.
