Summary

A security vulnerability has been detected in Cesanta Mongoose up to 7.20. The mg_aes_gcm_decrypt function in /src/tls_aes128.c, within the GCM Authentication Tag Handler component, is affected. Manipulation leads to improper verification of a cryptographic signature, the attack may be performed remotely, and it has a high complexity level with difficult exploitability. The exploit has been publicly disclosed.

Risk Assessment

A remote attacker may bypass GCM authentication tag verification, potentially compromising TLS communication confidentiality or integrity. The high attack complexity limits but does not eliminate the risk.

Recommendation

Upgrade Cesanta Mongoose to version 7.21, which contains the fix. Until updated, monitor for unusual TLS connection attempts.
