Summary

In pypdf versions prior to 6.10.1, an attacker can craft a PDF that causes long runtimes. This requires cross-reference streams with wrong large /Size values or object streams with wrong large /N values. This is fixed in pypdf 6.10.1.

Risk Assessment

A malicious PDF can cause prolonged processing and tie up application resources, leading to denial of service. The risk applies to systems processing untrusted PDF files.

Recommendation

Update pypdf to version 6.10.1 or later. As a workaround, manually apply the changes from the patch.
