Summary

In GIMP, processing a specially crafted PVR image file with large dimensions can cause a denial of service. A stack-based buffer overflow and out-of-bounds read in the PVR loader crash the application.

Risk Assessment

Potential application crashes and loss of unsaved user work. Systems processing untrusted PVR files are exposed to repeated DoS attacks.

Recommendation

Update GIMP to a fixed version. Until then, avoid opening untrusted PVR files or process them in an isolated environment.
