Summary

In Note Mark versions 0.19.1 and prior, the login endpoint performs bcrypt password verification only for existing usernames, returning immediately for nonexistent ones. This timing discrepancy allows unauthenticated attackers to enumerate valid usernames. The issue is fixed in version 0.19.2.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can identify valid usernames, facilitating targeted credential attacks such as brute force or credential stuffing. This may lead to account takeover.

Recommendation

Update Note Mark to version 0.19.2 or later. Additionally, consider implementing login rate limiting and monitoring for unusual patterns.
