Summary

The id utility in uutils coreutils produces incorrect pretty-print output when the real UID and effective UID differ. It incorrectly uses the effective GID instead of the effective UID for the effective user name lookup, resulting in misleading diagnostics.

Risk Assessment

Misleading output can cause automation scripts or administrators to make incorrect file permission or access control decisions. This may lead to improper security configuration.

Recommendation

Update uutils coreutils to a version containing the fix and review scripts that rely on id output for permission logic correctness.
