CVE-2026-35361

LowCVSS 3.4

Exploitation Probability (EPSS)

Low risk

4th percentile - higher than 4% of all known CVEs

Summary

The mknod utility in uutils coreutils fails to handle security labels atomically, creating device nodes before setting the SELinux context. If labeling fails, it attempts cleanup with std::fs::remove_dir, which cannot remove device nodes or FIFOs, leaving mislabeled nodes with incorrect default contexts.

Risk Assessment

Mislabeled device nodes left behind could allow unauthorized access to devices that should be restricted by mandatory access controls. This poses a risk to SELinux security policy enforcement.

Recommendation

Update uutils coreutils to a patched version. Check for and remove mislabeled device nodes on systems with SELinux.
