6th percentile - higher than 6% of all known CVEs

Summary

Stirling-PDF versions prior to 2.0.0 render user-supplied filenames directly into HTML using unsafe methods like innerHTML without sanitization. An attacker can craft a file with a malicious filename containing JavaScript that executes in the uploading user's browser context, resulting in reflected XSS across numerous upload endpoints.

Risk Assessment

Reflected XSS may allow an attacker to execute arbitrary script in the victim's browser, steal sessions, or perform actions on the user's behalf. The risk affects all Stirling-PDF instances before 2.0.0 with exposed upload endpoints.

Recommendation

Update Stirling-PDF to version 2.0.0 or later. Until then, restrict access to file upload endpoints and enforce a Content Security Policy.
