CVE-2026-121550

LowCVSS 3.3
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

The nnn file manager through 5.3 contains an insecure file handling vulnerability allowing local attackers to redirect writes because main() accepts an existing NNN_FIFO path without verifying it is a FIFO. Attackers can pre-create the predictable /tmp/nnn.fifo path as a symlink or readable regular file, causing victim-writable files to be overwritten or leaking the victim's browsed paths.

Risk Assessment

A local attacker can overwrite files owned by the victim or obtain information about browsed paths. The risk applies to multi-user systems where nnn is used.

Recommendation

Update nnn to a version later than 5.3. Until updated, avoid using NNN_FIFO in shared environments or secure the /tmp/nnn.fifo path with appropriate permissions.
