CVE-2026-120458

MediumCVSS 5.5
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

Kvazaar through 2.3.2 contains an infinite loop vulnerability in read_header() in src/encmain.c that allows attackers to hang the command-line encoder by supplying a truncated Y4M header. A crafted .y4m file lacking a terminating newline causes unchecked EOF reads that hang the process while consuming a full CPU core.

Risk Assessment

Hanging the encoder consumes a full CPU core and may disrupt batch processing. The risk affects systems processing untrusted Y4M files with Kvazaar.

Recommendation

Restrict processing of untrusted Y4M files or enforce time and resource limits for encoding processes. Track Kvazaar updates containing the fix.
