CVE-2026-120451

MediumCVSS 6.8
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

libgphoto2 through 2.5.34 contains stack-based and heap-based buffer overflow vulnerabilities in jl2005c_init(). Malicious USB devices can supply an unbounded allocation table entry count to overwrite the saved return address and heap data, potentially achieving code execution.

Risk Assessment

An attacker may achieve arbitrary code execution in the context of the process handling the device, potentially leading to full system compromise.

Recommendation

Update libgphoto2 to a version newer than 2.5.34 and, where possible, restrict unprivileged users from connecting USB devices.

Original NVD description (English source)

libgphoto2 through 2.5.34 contains stack-based and heap-based buffer overflow vulnerabilities in jl2005c_init() that allow malicious USB devices to corrupt memory by supplying an unbounded allocation table entry count. Attackers can connect a spoofed Jeilin JL2005B/C/D camera reporting 1022 or more entries to overwrite the saved return address and heap data, potentially achieving code execution.
