Summary

ImageMagick before 7.1.2-33 contains a memory leak in the FPX encoder that allows attackers to exhaust memory by supplying a crafted image. Repeated FPX encoding of crafted images causes resource exhaustion.

Risk Assessment

The memory leak can lead to resource exhaustion and denial of service (DoS). Organizations encoding untrusted images to FPX format are exposed to service instability.

Recommendation

Update ImageMagick to version 7.1.2-33 or later. Until updated, restrict encoding of untrusted images to FPX format.
