Summary

A stack-based buffer overflow exists in the Fireware OS logging service. A network-adjacent attacker who can impersonate or intercept traffic to the configured log server can execute arbitrary code with root privileges by presenting a specially crafted certificate.

Risk Assessment

A network-adjacent attacker could achieve root-level code execution on the firewall device, leading to full system compromise. However, this requires the ability to impersonate or intercept traffic to the log server.

Recommendation

Update Fireware OS to a version containing the fix. Secure communication with the log server (e.g., mutual TLS authentication) and restrict network access to trusted segments.
