4th percentile - higher than 4% of all known CVEs

Summary

In the Eclipse ThreadX NetX Duo DHCP client (versions 6.0 through 6.5.2.202603a), the option walk advances its offset one byte less than its read pointer for every option it skips. A DHCP server, or any host on the link that answers first, can make the client read up to about a kilobyte past the received message, and the same walk copies out-of-bounds bytes into the application's buffer when it retrieves a user option.

Risk Assessment

This can lead to leakage of device memory contents or application crashes, posing confidentiality and availability risks. IoT devices using DHCP on untrusted networks are exposed.

Recommendation

Update Eclipse ThreadX NetX Duo to a version newer than 6.5.2.202603a if available, or restrict the DHCP client to operate only on trusted networks. Consider implementing DHCP snooping on network switches.
