Summary

In Suricata versions from 8.0.0 to before 8.0.2, a NULL dereference can occur when the entropy keyword is used together with base64_data. The issue has been patched in version 8.0.2.

Risk Assessment

This can crash the IDS/IPS/NSM engine, interrupting network traffic monitoring and potentially causing threats to be missed.

Recommendation

Upgrade Suricata to version 8.0.2 or later. As a workaround, disable rules that use entropy in conjunction with base64_data.
