CVE-2025-63917
HighCVSS 7.1Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Low risk37th percentile - higher than 37% of all known CVEs
Summary
PDFPatcher thru 1.1.3.4663 executable's XML bookmark import functionality does not restrict XML external entity (XXE) references. The application uses .NET's XmlDocument class without disabling external entity resolution, enabling attackers to read arbitrary files, exfiltrate sensitive data via out-of-band (OOB) HTTP requests, perform SSRF attacks against internal network resources, or cause a denial of service via entity expansion attacks.
Risk Assessment
An attacker could read arbitrary files from the victim's filesystem, exfiltrate sensitive data via OOB HTTP requests, perform SSRF attacks against internal network resources, or cause a denial of service. This poses a significant threat to confidentiality and availability.
Recommendation
Update PDFPatcher to a version later than 1.1.3.4663 if available, or disable external entity resolution in the XmlDocument configuration. Avoid importing untrusted XML files.
