CVE-2025-62231
HighCVSS 7.3Exploitation Probability (EPSS)
Low risk19th percentile - higher than 19% of all known CVEs
Summary
A flaw was identified in the X.Org X server's X Keyboard (Xkb) extension where improper bounds checking in the XkbSetCompatMap() function can cause an unsigned short overflow. Sending specially crafted input data may overflow the value calculation, leading to memory corruption or a crash.
Risk Assessment
An attacker could remotely crash the X server or corrupt memory, disrupting the graphical environment and potentially causing data loss. This vulnerability poses a risk to the stability of systems running the X.Org server.
Recommendation
Immediately update the X.Org server to a version containing the fix for CVE-2025-62231. If an update is not possible, consider temporarily disabling the Xkb extension or restricting access to the X server.
