Summary

In versions prior to 3.0.13, the "Shared Notes" feature in BigBlueButton contains a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability with input in the "Username" field and output on the "Shared Notes" page when a user with a malicious username edits content. This allows a low-privileged user to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the context of higher-privileged users (e.g., Admins) who open the Shared Notes page. Version 3.0.13 fixes the issue.

Risk Assessment

A low-privileged user can execute arbitrary JavaScript in the context of an administrator or other higher-privileged user, potentially leading to session or token theft and account takeover.

Recommendation

Update BigBlueButton to version 3.0.13 or later. Until updated, consider restricting Shared Notes editing by low-privileged users.
