Summary

A stored cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability is found in the text sharing feature of FileCodeBox version 2.2 and earlier. Insufficient input validation allows attackers to inject arbitrary JavaScript code into shared text "codeboxes". The XSS payload is automatically executed in the browsers of users who access the infected codebox.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can execute arbitrary JavaScript in a victim's browser, potentially leading to session or data theft or actions performed on behalf of the user. The risk affects all users visiting infected shares.

Recommendation

Upgrade FileCodeBox to a version later than 2.2 if available, or implement proper input validation and sanitization. Consider disabling the text sharing feature until a fix is released.
