CVE-2025-38353

MediumCVSS 5.5
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Summary

In the Linux kernel, the drm/xe driver has a bug that attempts to take an invalid lock when handling a device wedge. If the device wedges, e.g., during GuC upload, the wedge call tries to use an uninitialized lock, triggering a DEBUG_LOCKS_WARN_ON warning.

Risk Assessment

The bug can lead to kernel warnings and potential system instability on machines with Intel GPUs supported by the xe driver. In extreme cases, it may cause device recovery issues.

Recommendation

Update the Linux kernel to a version containing the fix that guards the wedge call when the state is not initialized. Recommended for systems with Intel GPUs using the xe driver.
