Summary

In DeskTime Time Tracking App before version 1.3.674, improper TLS certificate validation allows an attacker in the network path to return a malicious executable in response to an update request, leading to user-level remote code execution on the client.

Risk Assessment

An attacker can gain control over the user's workstation by executing malicious code during updates, potentially leading to data theft or further spread of the attack within the network.

Recommendation

Update DeskTime to version 1.3.674 or later, which fixes the TLS validation issue. Additionally, use secure update channels and monitor the integrity of downloaded files.

Original NVD description (English source)

Due to improper TLS certificate validation in the DeskTime Time Tracking App before version 1.3.674, attackers who can position themselves in the network path between the client and the DeskTime update servers can return a malicious executable in response to an update request. This allows the attacker to achieve user-level remote code execution on the affected client.
