CVE-2024-2398

HighCVSS 8.6
Published: Updated: Translated: NVD NIST

Exploitation Probability (EPSS)

Very high risk
36.08%

98th percentile - higher than 98% of all known CVEs

Summary

When an application tells libcurl it wants to allow HTTP/2 server push, and the amount of received headers for the push surpasses the maximum allowed limit (1000), libcurl aborts the server push. When aborting, libcurl inadvertently does not free all the previously allocated headers and instead leaks the memory. Further, this error condition fails silently and is therefore not easily detected by an application.

Risk Assessment

Long-running applications using HTTP/2 server push may experience gradual memory leaks, eventually leading to resource exhaustion or crashes.

Recommendation

Update libcurl to a version containing the memory leak fix; if possible, consider disabling HTTP/2 server push support.
